The Guidelines provided by KVS for the Subject Committees has proven, with time, of much value to the conveners and members of the committees. By following it Vidyalayas have been able to move towards quantitative and qualitative excellence.  The Guidelines are as follows:

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE THROUGH SUBJECT COMMITTEES

Organization in subject committees in an educational institution is a prime need for academic planning in each subject since subject committees function under the seasoned leadership of individual subject teachers.  It automatically generates natural flow of qualitative academic guidance to newly joined/less experienced teachers in the subject. Secondly when a  group of minds discusses academic strategies to develop quality in the results by producing their own planning of improvement then it invariably gives birth to commonly acceptable strategies to be adopted in classrooms by the teachers of the subject, which in return will pave the path to academic excellence in the subject.  Overall, subject committee is the main platform of institution-based training.  Following may be the main objectives of the organization of subject committees :-

  1. Subject wise academic planning.

  2. Solving technical difficulties of less experienced teachers.

  3. Removing weakness of weak students.

  4. Maximizing the overall results and academic excellence in the subject.

  5. Assisting overall institutional planning.

The above said objectives may be realized by fixing a time schedule and agenda points of each meeting since the academic planning is the main component of institutional planning, which is based on the successful functioning of subject committees.  It is pertinent on the part of the Principal to form a steering committee in the first week of March to prepare a draft of institutional planning for the next session, which should be finally discussed in the staff council meeting at the end of the second week of March.

To implement academic part of institutional planning, the first subject committee meeting should be held in the third week of March.  This may be called the plannery subject committee meeting.  Agenda of the plannery subject committee meeting is advised as -

3rd week of March

2nd Subject Committee Meeting (April)

3rd Subject Committee Meeting (June-July)

Subject Committee Meeting (August)

Subject Committee Meeting (September)

 Subject Committee Meeting (October)

Subject Committee Meeting (November)
