 Saint Dnyaneshwara to Albert Einstein is a long journey in time and space. To a layman these two personalities may appear to be the two extremes in thought and time with practically nothing in common. But a closer look would reveal that both believed in God, in the orderly harmony of the Universe . Both asserted that intelligence is manipulated throughout all Nature and the basics of Scientific work is the  CONVICTION THAT THE WORLD IS AN ORDERED AND COMPREHENSIBLE ENTITY AND NOT A THING OF CHANCE .

 Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Dehu Road draws inspiration from the revered work of Saint Dnyaneshwara, composed on the banks of the sacred Indrayani, in the village DEHU. The school pursues curriculum with the spirit encompassed in these compositions. Laid out in natural surroundings, our Vidyalaya lives in harmony with  Nature and her blessings.

In the early sixties the need for a national-level organization, providing quality education in all the four corners of the country, was perceived.  As a result Central Schools Organization was proposed by the Central (second)  Pay Commission . Schools were established in several states across the country. The society was registered in 1965, twenty Regimental schools were taken over in 63-64 and converted into Central schools .

 The Central Schools Organization was started as a unit of the Ministry of Education and was nomenclatured Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in 1965. It is an autonomous body wholly financed by the Govt. of India. These schools  cater to the educational needs of the children of Central Govt. Employees, liable to transfers that are frequent and/or sudden, across the various geographical locations of the country. This ethos reflects in the evolution of the identity of the character of the institution- KVS .

Mission :

The Kendriya Vidyalayas  have a four-fold mission, namely,

i. to cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government employees including Defence and Para-military personnel by providing a common programme of education;

ii. to pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education.

iii. to initiate and promote experimentation and innovations in education in collaboration with other bodies like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) etc and

iv. to develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of Indianness among children.

SALIENT FEATURES

*  common text books and bilingual medium of      instruction; affiliation to the CBSE; co-education and composite system :

*  teaching of Sanskrit compulsorily from Classes V to IX.  Students also study Sanskrit as an additional optional subject in Class X and as an elective at +2 stage.

*  preference in admission in to Class I to children whose parents have  higher number of transfers during the previous seven years (and merit within the category in other classes).

* maintenance of an appropriate teacher-pupil ratio to ensure quality  teaching ;

* No tuition fees for boys up to Class VIII and for girls, Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Students, the children of the employees of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and wards of war widows upto class XII.

To provide secondary / Senior secondary education    with a common syllabus and medium of instruction for such children so that their education reflects the linguistic and cultural diversity of the country.
